Aeronautical data-what’s happened and why I want to see a reform from the NGA

We’ve all seen DAFIF and USFIF become unavailable to the public, but http://worldaerodata.com/ still uses the DAFIF data-even after it was withdrawn from public access.

Well, national security and Air Services Australia  was one of National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency’s reasons back in 2004 for the removal of the above.

Then National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency put up USFIF until October 2007, and guess what?

Protected it from public access too but Jeppesen does not and makes its products available for everyone-at a cost mind you (over $100 per year in some cases).

Now with a new president soon to be sworn in, why don’t we campaign for a National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency reform in regards to DAFIF?

Sure you might not get a reply personally from the NGA or the President-I emailled the latter and was acknowledged.

They’ll consider it hopefully and pressure the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency.

So any interested Flight Simulator users should write or email the NGA or the President with something like this:

Dear National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency,
I would like to make an official complaint  at the lack of worldwide aeronautical information available to interested personnel.

Having only milltary access to worldwide aeronautical information  is wrong  and extremely harmful and limits the access of vital information for commercial flying.
Saying that supplying USFIF/DAFIF to rhe public is a risk to national security is wrong as basis for the 2004 decision to limit access.

While the defence industry could have a use for US/international navigation information, the civillan industry is suffering by protecting and hiding the worldwide aeronautical information like USFIF and DAFIF from one of the most important market segements.
In fact, the lack of information transparency between different agenices  whether military or civillian is appalling in my opinion.
To resolve all of this,  National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency should  provide  USFIF and DAFIF for  commercial  interests again in a redacted form without content that came from Air Services Australia.

Thanks for this article. I totally agree! However, I live in Canada and I can’t write them – they don’t care about me!
